This week is about finding myself, and unleashing the power within. I have been feeling down lately, i could not tell at all if my life was moving in the right direction or not, i hardly knew myself anymore, but not anymore. I feel as if am finally moving in the right direction. Its taken a lot of soul searching and humility to accept that i am a mess and that that mess needed sorting out. So i dedicate this week to the cleaning up of my life and putting my life back on track. As was going through some of the stuff at home i came across an old torn piece of paper, and it turns out that i wrote something about my name there.
Sonia is derived from 'Sophia"a Greek name which means wisdom and it has variances in spellings like Sonja, Sonya.
In Hindi Sonia means golden
In Mayan Sonya is given to a first wife as a sign of respect, intelligence or a sign that she is a virtuous woman. mothers use to pray that the name Sonya placed on their daughter for anyone named Sonya is strong and independent.
So I can be virtuous, after all its my name!

I have been thinking a lot about marriage today. There are times i ask myself why i got married, and i have to remind myself that it is a choice i made myself. Here is the story that has prompted all these thoughts today:
A married male friend of mine was talking about his boss, lets call him James (not his real name).
" I met the boss in town this weekend, he was doing some shopping with his wife. He has a very beautiful wife, very light complexion, she is colored and did i mention very beautiful. When he saw me he came to me and greeted me and i asked him who was his female companion and he said she was his sweetheart. He did not introduce her to me, she was standing about three yards from where we were. I asked him to introduce us in case i meet her somewhere and propose to her, she is very beautiful. The guy i was with could not believe she was his wife. when he left he sort of hinted to me that she was too beautiful for him,my boss is kind of not so good looking."
Honestly i did not know what to comment on that conversation. When he was talking i was just thinking if my husband would talk like that about someone else' wife. i guess woo to us 'plain' women. But how would my friend's wife feel if he could hear her husband talk like that about another woman, it was obvious it was beyond paying her friendly compliments.
Back to being a virtuous woman, i sometimes find it challenging to be a virtuous woman when my husband does not seem to appreciate who i am,or even try to show that i am valuable to him. I know in our world men are constantly being tempted, with beautiful women throwing themselves at them, that is why women need to feel special to their husbands, its an assurance that although many people act like this, he is different. Anyway, that is what i think. what i would like my husband to do, it does not need to have a monetary value to it, just a simple act that says i love you and you are special to me.

I sometimes like to think of myself as a virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31 v 10 (KJV), "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies". Its a song my husband likes to sing in our local language and sometimes i think he does that to irritate me, he always sings it when i feel less proud about myself. But honestly, i am a virtuous woman in the making and i do not know how long it is going to take me to the point where i will start feeling that my husband is singing praises to me. i have my flaws as a mother to my two children but mostly as a wife, if you ask me on a scale of 1-10, i usually rate myself on a 2. Maybe am too hard on myself but i believe in being my own critic, i cant stand being criticized by someone else. So whats this thing about being a virtuous woman? here's how i think of a virtuous woman:
- She i s a woman filled with wisdom
- A woman who fears the Lord
- A woman who is trusted by her husband
- A woman who does good to her husband
- A woman who works hard to provide for her family
- A woman who is compassionate and kind
- A woman who makes her husband proud
